One of the many features that seems to adorn every “country bro trucks” (different from a suburban/urban bro truck, mind you) are those bouncy rubber “antennas” on either side of the truck right behind the cab. On the majority of these trucks, do these things do anything?

Buddy of mine has an antenna like that he uses for a CB radio, I assume that’s what a lot of em are for.

From the guy who sees about 30 of those every day...
I have no clue. Aesthetics, probably.

That was my first guess, but several trucks at my school have them, and if they do have CB radios they aren’t obviously visible.

i think its for when your in the dunes you can put flags up there and increase your visibility so jackasses dont come flying over a crest into your truck

Sounds likely. In that case the people I know with them have them purely for showers, much like the rest of the stuff on their trucks.

Huh, I didn't know the mall parking lot had dunes?
![]() 04/29/2015 at 20:40 |

A few of my buddies have them. On theirs, they are CB whips. If they’re not for a CB, I’d assume its for mounting flags to fly (i.e. Confederate flag, Don’t Tread On Me flag, etc.)?

Going with CB radio or some other such thing in need of antenna. Do they use walkie talkies?
![]() 04/29/2015 at 20:41 |

With Pismo Dunes nearby, a lot of trucks around here have them as flag whips. But they don’t fold them down because they presumably want everyone to know they’re a DuneBro.

You mean Firestik’s?
My dad has a pair of red ones mounted to his lifted Chevy truck, connected to a Cobra CB radio I think he’s had longer than I’ve been alive.
![]() 04/29/2015 at 20:45 |
|
Is there a significant portion of the population who mounts them just for showers?
![]() 04/29/2015 at 20:46 |
|
Generally they’re CB radio whips, or they’re supposed to be and they want you to think they have a CB radio.
![]() 04/29/2015 at 20:53 |

I don’t know about showers, but I bet there’s a bunch of people that mount them for show. Firestik only makes two real products: CB antennas, and offroad vehicle flags:
The CB antennas are only usable as CB antennas. You can’t hook them up as radio antennas.
They are fairly cheap compared to most brodozer accessories: $13.99 for the black 3 foot RoadPal CB antenna, up to $27.99 for the 3 foot Firestik II (black, red, white, blue, or patriotic [red, white, and blue]). For the CB user that needs serious range or the brodozer that needs serious street cred, they make the Original Firestik in a 7 foot length for $31.99.

CB Radio. I used to have two 6 ft whips on the back bumper of my ‘73 Buick. Silly looking, but they worked great for the CB!
![]() 04/29/2015 at 21:01 |

If they are aesthetic only it’s a bro truck. If they are hooked up to an actual CB, they are a true country boy...

Its a CB radio antenna. I had one on my jeep and so did everyone else I rode with when off roading with so we could easily talk to each other on the trail

the one near my house does but I think there just left over from all the sand they put down on the streets over the winter. The snow melts and there is now the nastiest sand dunes you’ve ever seen. there are a surprising amount of nips buried in there as well

I had 4 foot firesticks on my old pick up. Had a bad ass cobra cb, use to talk with truckers and my buddies while we’d cruise town for hours on end. I knew a lot of guys with “whips” and about 1/10 would have an actual cb radio. Used to chatter to the combines and tractors when it was planting/picking season. Also used to be great for when we had our hunting parties going to opposite ends of land for deer pushes. God I sound like a redneck.

Well, I can tell you that the on the BRO’d out red 1990s f250 that crawled around my college campus, said antennas were serving as flagpoles. ‘Murica!

Here in the swamps, a lot of people have CB's, so that is a reason.

But how will you fit under tractor-trailers with a big flag on your car?

well that is a good point those neighborhood kids on their bikes have been calling me gay for not driving under trucks.

I’ve just been calling you gay because you’re not as manly and successful as Homer Simpson.

I wanna go to da swamps! Gators are delicious.
![]() 04/30/2015 at 10:47 |

I have yet to try gator down here, so it’s not that common. Louisiana is way more lax about that.

I was looking at the Firestik range a couple of weeks ago, because colours!, but ended up getting a Wilson Little Wil magnetic for the time being. I’m not sure I’m ready to drill mounting holes in my bodywork just yet...

Damn the expense of bro trucks man. My neighbour has a big bro truck and bro’s tires are just about done, I check them out often. They are down to like 2-3MM of tread in the fronts. Maybe.
He asked me if he could regroove them, I said no. They are swampers not big rig tires....

I tried in AZ but it came from Lousiana. I have never been to the (for lack of better term) confederate south, only AZ which isn’t part of that. Virginia is the only confederate state I have made it to.

They make mounting brackets to attach them to your mirrors or the stake bed pockets.
![]() 04/30/2015 at 11:32 |

I have a 4Runner, so big plasticky mirrors and no truck bed. Ideally, I’d find a high-quality lip mount that will allow me to mount it on the rear hatch or the side of the hood, without having to drill.

It’s a beautiful place down here, well the rest of the Southeast at least, Florida just isn’t my taste. If you want a clear gulf beach, go to Alabama. They also have hills.

I beg to difer! Firestik use to make the matchmaker, a splitter for CB and Radio that I had in my Land Cruiser. They had some production issues and now I think WalcottCB have some.
